To a new new leader, direct leadership can sound like something that lives in the same neighborhood as disrespecting someone's dignity. Being direct is actually kinder when done properly. It needn't mean speaking down to someone or insulting their sense of agency. It can even be co-created.
This has to be taught to new leaders. We're not born with this talent.

100% true. We're bred to have habits that are pretty much the opposite, so this is all a lot of work. Worthwhile, nonetheless.
